Custom Slipcovers

Custom slipcovers can change the appearance of any room immediately without the cost of reupholstery. I have helped numerous clients over the years reinvent their living spaces by custom making slipcovers. Some clients opt to have a couple of sets so that they can change them for every season.

This particular client chose new white matelasse slipcovers. These are very clean looking. It is difficult to decipher if they are even slipcovers; they look almost like they have been completely upholstered!

Slipcover Tips:

  • Choose textured fabrics to add visual interest. Textured fabrics, such as denim, twill, and sailcloth, are more wrinkle-resistant.
  • Do not choose a slipcover fabric that is too heavy, this will make the seams too bulky.
  • Choose a tightly woven slipcover fabric, this will further protect the upholstery underneath.
  • Slipcovers work best on fully-upholstered furniture.  Slipcovers are best for fully-upholstered furniture.
  • Slipcovers should change the look, but not the comfort of the furniture.
  • Dry clean slipcovers to prolong their life.

Slipcover Benefits:

  • More affordable than reupholstering or purchasing a new piece of furniture.
  • Easy to remove and clean.
  • Can create a relaxed or fitted look.
  • Keeps furniture looking new.
  • Aids in blending mismatched furniture.
  • Can easily change the look of your home.
  • Protects furniture from damage and spills.

A wonderful way to change the fabric of your furniture without the cost of having the items reupholstered is to let us make slipcovers! My team and I can help you pick out the perfect fabric. Also, we will pick up your sofa or chairs to ensure a custom fit and that the process goes effortlessly for you and your household.

Upholstered Custom Made Bed

Most people spend around a third of the day in bed: sleeping, watching TV, reading, etc. So why not have a bed built for royalty? When you create a custom-made bed, the possibilities are endless; you are able to choose the shape, upholstery, and finishing details.  Plus, they are one-of-a-kind pieces that can be designed to meet precise specifications and squeeze into tight spaces, such as between windows.

Steps in Choosing a Custom Made Bed

Headboard Style

If you are wanting to add several pillows to your bed and design around the room, you may opt for a simple sleek panel. On the contrary, choosing a wingback design can give the bed dimension, generating a focal point to the bedroom.

Headboard Shape

A rectangular headboard provides clean lines and a clean palette; this shape can maintain serenity in the room.  Due to its neutral stance, it provides the flexibility to change out bedding, pillows, and decor.  Still a simple design but giving the bed an enhancement is slightly arching the top of the headboard.  To undoubtedly make your bed the centerpiece of the bedroom, choose a custom shape… think fleur de lis; it definitely does not have to be that extravagant to draw the attention of the room, a few curves are enough to satisfy.

Headboard Height

  • Low Profile: 36-48″ H
  • Average: 48- 60″ H
  • Above Average: 60-72″ H
  • Tall: 72- 80″ H
  • Oversize: 81″-120″ H

Headboard Only vs. Custom Bed Frame

There is the option of attaching your custom-made headboard to an ordinary bed frame and electing to have a bed skirt cover the box spring.  Or there is the choice of a custom-made bed frame. These are designed to match the headboard and can be built to support your mattress (platform), mattress, and box spring (standard), or to cover them (adjustable mattress foundation).  To give the bed a more complete look, a matching footboard can be added.  These sit up slightly higher than the mattress and excel in keeping comforters on the bed.

Custom Made Bed Finishing Touches

The exciting part is choosing the upholstery!  Will it be velvet, leather, or natural fabric?  Then there is the color, are you going to go with a neutral color or a vibrant color or pattern to really make a statement?  You can have the fabric pulled smooth and tight across the bed or there is the option of adding tufts.  I think that the icing on the cake is the addition of nailheads and usually choose the same metal finish that is used throughout the room.

My Custom Made Bed Projects

Custom Made Upholstered Beds

This bed was upholstered in a gray velvet by Kravet.  As you can see, my upholsterer made the base of the bed the exact size of the box spring and mattress and it flows seamlessly with the headboard.  There is a slight arch to the headboard to conform to the classy appearance of the bedroom.

Custom Made Upholstered Beds

We kept the style of this custom bed simple and chose an eye-catching fabric to make it the focal point of the bedroom.  The finishing touch of the nailhead trim perfected this chic design.

We are able to make beds per our customers’ requests so we have the ability to set the desired ambiance in any bedroom.  My team and I make our masterpieces to last a lifetime so that a third of your life is spent in the bed of your dreams!

5 Things That You Can Have Custom-Made

From bathrooms to bedrooms to kitchens, you can have something custom-made for any room in your house.  There are many items that can be custom-made for the home, such as curtains, furniture, built-ins, and cabinetry.  I enjoy adding custom-made pieces to my designs because of the complexity they add to a room.  My recent projects including custom-made items are a master bathroom with custom vanity, custom bookshelves for bedrooms and home offices, and something a little out of the ordinary, custom desk skirts.

Custom-Made Bathroom Vanity

Custom-Made Bathroom Vanity

This master bathroom custom vanity is made from a wood called Sapele or African mahogany.  It is naturally golden to dark reddish-brown, but we stained it to a darker brown to contrast beautifully against the marble floors with gray veining.  Sapele is a more cost-effective option to Genuine Mahogany and is a very close match in visual appeal, wood processing, and durability.  The irregularities in both grain patterns give them an exotic look leading to their popularity around the world.  A great addition to the vanity was a pull-out drawer cut out under the sink so no space was wasted.  It is great for storing hairbrushes, combs, razors, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.  Bonuses such as this are just one of the reasons why I love custom-made cabinetry!

Custom-Made Kitchen Island

Custom-Made Kitchen Island

For this kitchen, I designed a custom island.  As you’ll notice, it is not a perfect rectangle, giving it more character.  My favorite enhancements are the prep sink, having multiple sinks in a kitchen is a game-changer, and the microwave drawer is way more appealing to the aesthetic than a countertop microwave or one that hangs above the stove. Also, there is plenty of storage space!   The drawer under the microwave can be great for organizing your Tupperware and we installed shelves on one side for a collection of ironstone pots and cookbooks.  Lastly, the faux paint finish on the island was carefully colored to match the exquisite marble slab on top.

Custom-Made Cabinets

Custom-Made Cabinets

This is one of my favorite custom cabinet projects!  All of the cabinets are stunning cherry and stretch from floor to ceiling for maximum storage.  We placed glass mosaic tile as the backsplash and a warm granite countertop to compliment the cabinets.  Furthermore, the wine cooler had a perfect home in the kitchen because of all the cabinets being custom made.

Custom-Made Built-In Bookcase

Custom-Made Built-In Bookcase

I designed a built-in bookshelf with a desk for a young man’s bedroom to blanket the wall across from the foot of his bed.  Joinery crown molding was placed at the top and baseboard molding at the bottom, both continue onto every wall in the room.  The integration of an upholstered memo board behind the desk can hold photos and important notes or reminders.

The below picture is from my home office, where you’ll see custom-made built-in units.  I created this layout to house my fabric books in the upper cabinets and added doors to the lower shelves to keep clutter out of sight.

Custom-Made Desk Skirts

On the other side of my office are my two desks.  I had desk skirts, also called table coverings, made to disguise wires and computer modems and create extra storage space.  The gathered skirts are made out of 100% linen fabric by Pindler.
