Custom cabinetry can make a room feel intentional and add a personal touch to any space. With most people buying pre-made pieces, it’s a bit of a dying art to have bespoke pieces in your home and we love to create them for our clients!

When thinking about custom cabinetry, there are typically a few places that come to mind right away as perfect candidates (like kitchens and bathrooms) but others like bars, mudrooms, and wine cellars are all ideal places to add a custom piece. Let’s look at each of them in more depth.

Custom Kitchen Cabinetry

I have found that custom cabinetry is essential when designing a kitchen. Known as “the heart of the home” the kitchen is the place where we gather with our friends and family. It is certainly one of the most important rooms of a home and you want it to be beautiful and functional. Custom cabinetry is the key to meeting that objective.

Kitchen remodeling can be overwhelming but with our eye for creating just the right design and the skills of our master craftsmen, we can provide you with a kitchen of your dreams. From the doors styles to the countertops to the appliances, we provide you with an array of choices for a truly custom look.

In the kitchen pictured the client needed a more modern look to match a contemporary home in Northern Virginia. The wood chosen for the cabinetry was mahogany. Straight – grained, reddish-brown wood favored by cabinetmakers. Glass doors were installed over a pass-through, and house the clients’ large glass collection. The richness of the wood made the kitchen cabinets the centerpiece for the entire first floor of this lovely home.

Bathroom Vanities

Cabinetry is one of the most important elements in your bathroom, so it’s important that you get the design that you would like.

In the bathroom pictured, every inch of the cabinetry was designed with the continuing gray/ silver color scheme that runs throughout the house. The cabinets we’re faux painted a gray strie, a color that blends beautifully with the marble in the shower stall and on the bathroom floor and countertop. The upper doors on the vanity have been inset with an antique silvered mirror to give an “old world” appearance. The toe kick on the base of the vanity gives a look of an antique piece of free-standing furniture.

Built-In Bookcases

A well-designed bookcase blends storage and displays to showcase books, collectibles, and artwork.

This black painted bookcase was designed for a client’s lower level family room. The piece was designed to be free-standing and does not go all the way to the ceiling. A desk is positioned at either end for symmetry. The space in the middle was custom sized for the TV with all the components hidden in the doors below. A client’s passion for moulding is displayed in the large fluted trim and baseboards.

Custom Closets

Our daily routine begins and ends in our closets. So we believe our closets should be beautiful and organized. It should have the space to display all your personal treasures. There are many benefits to gain from a custom closet design, one that includes shelves, rods, drawers, cabinets and custom center islands.

This closet made of maple is a two-story ram to itself. While not representative of what we typically do because of its large size cut, it combines wonderful wall storage with a large center island with drawers to house belts, scarves and the like. These are design elements that are practical in closets of much smaller sizes. Once again, using custom cabinetry makes it possible to create the kind of space that suits your particular needs and preferences.

Wine Cellars

Not everyone will have a need for a wine cellar, but it is a form of cabinetry that can add both function and beauty, especially to a lower level area. Custom cabinetry is particularly appropriate because space design and limitations of the room in which the wine cellar is to be located dictate the design of the cabinetry, and of course, clients’ wine collections will vary widely in size.

This particular cabinetry is crafted from mahogany, a stable wood with a beautiful grain that is ideal for this purpose.

Mudroom

We tend to think of a mudroom as a purely functional space, and it is that. But it can also be a beautiful place that is welcoming and pleasing to the eye as one enters the house, helping to create a happy mood. custom cabinetry is almost always essential because med rooms virtually always vary in size and layout, and pre-fabricated cabinets are likely to look like a “patch job” and not be very functional.

Custom cabinets can be simple in design or more elaborate, as with this example which includes custom polished nickel metal grills on the doors and custom upholstery in the sitting area.

Custom Bars

A bar is one of those luxuries that help to complete a room design. Clearly, the options are limitless, both in style and extent. Here is an opportunity to use your imagination. The custom cabinetry design can be simple and straightforward or more elaborate and elegant, as with this design, which uses black painted wood with glass doors a copper tile backsplash and matching granite countertops.

In this particular instance, the design was customized to blend with the black bookcase that is elsewhere in the room (see above).
