Our company is passionate about helping our clients achieve their dreams. Where and how one lives are critical parts of the dreams that we create. Bathrooms, in particular, are extremely important in the way we identify with the world. They are the first space we occupy when we awake and the last before we retire. Beginning and ending our day in the right space will affect the way we are for the rest of the day.

For us, each project is a unique and exciting journey for our client. That journey is, at times, very difficult. And that is where our purpose lies. To guide them through their wonderful journey and to achieve their dream.

This journey with our clients in Oakton, Virginia was no different.

The Beginning

The crucial discovery of the exquisite blue-gray glass tile that our client saw on the internet was the start of what would be an exciting journey to creating their dream master bathroom.

After an exhaustive and inspiring brainstorming session, we finally came up with the perfect vision for the creation of something wonderful. After intense discussion on the choice of stone, colors, textures, artwork and many other aspects of the design, we finally found the perfect blend. White marble was the supreme match to the wistful quality of the glass tiles. Both blending into a surreal dreaminess – evoking a feeling of floating. As if on clouds.

Surprises on the Way

The bathroom was small. We removed a linen closet that was behind the bathroom and turned it into a large shower. Suddenly it looked spacious. That dreaminess and feeling of space was accentuated after laying the white 18×18 marble tiles that were chosen. The choice of the marble was the perfect complement to the glass tile. Once the glass tile was installed on the shower wall (a floor-to-ceiling installation with a frame of 12×24 marble tile), the bathroom suddenly stood-out in an almost surreal fashion, with the glass tile wall seeming like a mystical mist against white, wispy clouds. In order to provide some subtle definition, the shower floor was completed in a 2×2 hexagonal tile. Style was underpinned with a custom designed shower seat, curb and vanity top. All from the same slab of white marble.

To complete the exquisite ensemble, chrome plumbing fixtures were chosen to complement the silver-blue shades intimated in the glass tiles. The fixtures seemed to sparkle like stars against a cloudy background.

A Blend of Beautiful Choices

All that was left to complete the already perfect picture was discrete lighting, complementary paint for the walls and the mirror above the vanity. And, of course, a tasteful item of furniture or two.

For the furniture, our client decided on a custom-built vanity. This was built in a rich, deep-stained, mahogany with a special “U” shaped drawer for the sink drain – very convenient for holding hairbrushes and a hairdryer. Another piece for storage was also created to complement the vanity stand. The mahogany pieces were dressed in chrome pulls to integrate them with the design.

The lighting was recessed in the main bathroom area and two bar-mounted fixtures over the sinks were installed. To finish the lighting, a decorative chrome and glass hanging fixture was placed above the entrance.

Vanity mirrors over each sink were custom made to size and were decorated with silver leaf frames. The silver leaf pattern blended so beautifully with the chrome fixtures and the marble. The silver filigrees bridging the natural look of the tile with the substance of the metal fixtures.

For the walls the choice of an exquisite color called “Silver Mink” was decided on. This is a blue/gray paint from paint specialists Ben Moore. Both the color and the delicate sheen of the paint created the perfect hue that complemented the glass tile beautifully.

The final touch to this stunning design was our client’s excellent choice of a beautiful white-painted linen cabinet.

A Piece of Heaven

The whole picture brought together in tasteful and classic style, a sensitive and subtle blend of nature and nurture. The natural grain of the marble against the strict form of the tiles presented a foundation that explored this theme. The mystical serenity of the blue-grey in the glass tiles integrated exquisitely with the marble. The glistering brilliance of the chrome fixtures provided the sparkle of jewels.

All-in-all, the effect created was both dreamy and surreal. As if floating in clouds. This, I am sure would be both a wonderful morning wake-up that eases you into your day as well as a thoroughly relaxing atmosphere to be savored each evening before retiring. One that induces a dreamy state of euphoria that wafts you away to a peaceful place.

Heaven, perhaps?
