We finally made it to a New Year and with it comes fresh ideas to liven up your space for 2021. As festivities come to a close and people return to work, I’m here to bring you five design ideas and tips to incorporate into your home, in time for spring!

Yellow & Grey: Pantone’s colors of the year

Pantone Color Institute, a global authority on colors and design, traditionally chooses one color per year. Last year, we had the beautiful classic blue. This year, Pantone took the unusual step of choosing two colors for 2021. “Illuminating,” which is a vibrant lemony yellow, paired with “Ultimate Gray,” a subdued pale gray color. They’ve announced these two colors as, “A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” I think we can all agree that the world is in need of some enduring and uplifting hope!

As you design different rooms and spaces, think about bringing these colors into your design. Whether you choose to use these colors to paint a room (perhaps 3 gray walls with a vibrant yellow accent wall!), or incorporate these colors into your decor, they are sure to cheer up any space and bring that fresh start we’re all looking for.

Freshen Up Your Home Office

As we start off 2021, it’s clear that a new precedent of working from home permanently is forming, as people are realizing the many benefits that come with it. Many people are still working from home and may continue to do so even after the pandemic is over. Carving out a specific work space for yourself is proven to help focus and productivity, as well as reduce stress. So if you’re deciding on one room to tackle for 2021, choose your home office!

We always recommend choosing a room or space with a lot of natural light, to help brighten up your work day. Stay tuned for a more in depth article looking at designing a home office!

Marble, Marble, Marble

Marble is making a strong return this year, as a mark of luxury and style. World renowned architect Natalia Miyar has stated, “heavily veined marble is making a significant comeback in the design world and has become synonymous with high-end luxury.” The veiny busyness of marble provides a beautiful contrast with smoother metals and woods. Not only that, but it’s durable. A well designed marble counter or bathroom sink can last a lifetime.

Gold finishes

Gold metalware is proving to be a key part of various interior design trends this year. From Cottagecore, to tropical and oceanic inspired designs, to pairing it next to marble, to the neutrals and dark dramas, gold finishes are proving to elevate any space into a luxurious design. Gold is making an appearance with golden taps, golden leg chairs, lamps and accent pieces. Not only that, but in designing a kitchen, we’re seeing a trend of golden sinks as well. So if you’re designing a room, try to find tones that will pair nicely with some gold finishes!

Rearrange furniture

We know that Covid-19 has brought a lot of financial hardship to many people across the country. Perhaps totally remodeling or renovating your space isn’t a feasible option at the moment. There are still ways you can freshen up your space without spending any money. One of the easiest ways to do this is to simply rearrange the layout of the furniture and decor! Not only will this make the room and space feel new, but it gives you the chance to clean all the floor and dust that accumulates underneath furniture and in corners. That alone can help you feel ready for another year. Likewise, rearranging decor, wall hangings, and art, especially in between different rooms can help a space feel totally new.

If you have a small budget, getting new bedding, cushions, or prints for your frames is a cost effective way to drastically change the way your home looks!

What do you need to feel fresh?

It’s easy to take in all the different trends of 2021, but as always, the most important question is what you need to feel like you’re getting a fresh start. Whether your house is on trend or not isn’t really the important part. It’s all about how a space makes you feel. So as always, be true to yourself and your preferences! This is your home after all.
